    Xiaoshan No. 5 High School was founded in 1998 . She was nominated as first-class senior middle school of Zhejiang Province in April, 2005. And she has become the advanced unit of environmental sanitation, the advanced unit of national defense industry , the advanced unit of educational studies , the experimental school of modern education technologies , the consulting unit of western education , the advanced unit of national code of ethics and the experimental school of foreign languages .

Large Scale

    She has 50 classes , 2674 students and 190 teaching staff . She is located on a beautiful land of 108,054 square meters including 40,455.6 square meters building area and 41,060 square meters green area .

Advanced Facilities

    She is equipped with first-class teaching facilities including classrooms , labs , music classrooms , art classrooms with multi-media facilities and a large-scale reading room with 200 seats and an electronic library with 300 seats . The large-scale track and field area and a 3,204-square-meter stadium are located in the eastern campus . A well-equipped and clean dining hall can hold 2,800 students in the western campus . Students’ dormitories and classrooms are all equipped with air-conditioners.

Excellent Personnel

    Our school has been attaching much more attention to the cultivation of our teaching staff . Through the new-star project and famous-teacher project , we have cultivated an excellent teaching team . All the professional teachers have gained at least bachelor degrees among whom 49 teachers have gained master degrees or are gaining master degrees . They have contributed a lot to the development of our school. Among them are two teachers of special classification , six excellent teachers well-known throughout Zhejiang Province , fifty-five advanced teachers , sixty-five teaching stars and nineteen excellent headteachers .

Outer Communication

    Our school has been devoting to strengthening the communication with other foreign schools and has developed the deep friendship with schools of different nations . We succeeded in hosting two English-language-village activities . Thirty American teachers have ever been to our school to teach. As an exchange , twenty-two teachers from our school have been sent to America ,Canada , Germany, Australia and other countries to visit and to be trained. More than two hundred foreign experts from Germany , France , Japan have contributed to the drawing up of our development strategy . Teachers and students of Kerpen Middle School from Germany paid a visit to our school on October 20, 2004 . From then on , we made a periodical exchange visit plan . Since the summer vacation of 2005 , we have been supposed to select and send at least twenty students to Germany to communicate and investigate . In order to cooperate with our national “Two-basic” educational strategy , we built up the one-to-one assistant relationship with Xinjiang Tulufan No. 1 Middle School .

Teaching Quality

    During the past seven years, aiming at cultivating excellent moral qualities ,scientific spirit and studying abilities of our students , we’ve been carrying out our national educational strategy , advocating quality education and promoting the quality of education . After seven years’ hard work, we have made great achievements . In the past three years , the percentages of the students who were enrolled by key universities are respectively 28.20%, 36.70%, and 36.80%. The percentages of the students who can gain bachelor degrees are 86.90%, 96.70% and 96.80%. Especially , in 2005, our school came to the climax , 199 students were enrolled by key universities , many students were enrolled by Qinghua University , Fudan University , Nanjing University and Renmin University . In 2006, 211 students were admitted to key universities and another six students by Asia Pacific University in Japan . Besides, students took an active part in all sorts of contests and competitions . 28 students won all kinds of prizes , especially the chemistry team championship of Zhejiang Province .

Achievements of Educational Studies

    Through active educational studies , we are developing our teaching specialities and are paving our way to our future and success . The results of “School Basic Training Studies” won the first prize of Hangzhou City and the third prize of Zhejiang province and was published in “Studies and spread” by Educational Studies Institute . “Teaching Diagnosis and Contract Studies” “ Dialogue –the Realization and Practice of the Reform of Xiaoshan Number Five High School” won the second prize of Zhejiang province . Nowadays , the masterpiece reflecting the teaching reform of the past seven years , “ Effective Teaching” has been published by Zhejiang People’s Publishing House .

    Nowadays , our school has entered a rapidly developing and flourishing period . To build up objective and concrete teaching concepts , to compose thick and harmonious humanism environment , to construct abundant and noble campus environment , to promote the harmonious development of the teachers and students are the common aim of the whole staff of Xiaoshan No. 5 High School .
